I recently visited this office to renew my driving license, and I had one of the most unpleasant experiences ever due to the behavior of one of the staff members. I had booked an appointment online and was called to the counter quickly, which seemed efficient at first. But things went downhill as soon as I sat down.

I showed the lady at the counter a translated sentence in Czech on my phone explaining what I needed since I don’t speak Czech. When she realised this, she started speaking to me in English—not to help, but to make it very clear she wouldn’t assist me. She said things like, “This is not an international office, and I am not allowed to speak to you in English,” and “You think you can tell me what I am allowed to do here?”. She even added, “I could be nice to you and help you with what you need, but I don’t have to, so I won’t.”

I am honestly shocked. I know not speaking Czech can be an issue, and I wasn’t expecting special treatment, but being treated so badly and with no care at all was really upsetting. The fact that she could help but chose not to, just because she didn’t want to, is next-level rudeness.

This whole experience was humiliating and left a really bad impression. I thought public service should at least come with some basic respect, but that was completely missing here.

Disgusting service. I have been there 3 times now and only once I had someone nice and willing to help. My recent visit, I have never been treated soo poorly, with nasty intent from anyone let alone a public servant in my life. I even had my czech wife on the phone receiving the same disgusting attitude. These people should be ashamed of themselves to stoop to such a level. It doesn’t matter where you come from or who you are, at a minimum your job is to treat others with dignity. Yes I am submitting a formal complaint. Where I am from you would be fired on the spot for such in appropriate actions.

I just hope the ministry read these comments and take some action to change this culture.

I go there when I apply for driver's license. If you cannnot speak Czech, it might be difficult to communicate for driver's lisence application. I went there without translator, the reception lady was anger at me. And it is very crowded, so you should reserve in advance.

Take snacks. They deal with hundreds of people a day so be ready for a lengthy wait. I was there for four hours today, but the process itself was smooth and painless. Make sure you have all the paperwork you will need, if you don't have permanent residency that can be quite a lot of paperwork: Passport, bills/contract for where you are living etc. The booking website is terrible and always shows full. Go early, check which ticket you need with the information booth and settle in with a movie or something, just don't expect to be in and out quickly!

If you go just to pick up your already created driving license best is to come slightly before 8am, don't get started by 100m long queue - the people there are usually some "more complicated cases". Despite the queue I've been leaving by 8³⁰.
You can try to make online reservation when to come but the dates available are usually free weeks ahead.

Surprisingly good experience when getting driving license for my wife, who's a foreigner.

1. Booked date ahead (search for "portalprazana rezervace")
2. You'll get an email with your selected timeslot - !!! - you have to confirm the reservation, otherwise your slot is not confirmed. So only when you get 2nd mail with a pincode, you're good to go
3. arrived to the spot 3 minutes before the time - picked the number and immediately got assigned counter
4. all solved in 15 minutes including payment (cash/card)

Yes - they do not speak english much - get some czech friend to go with you or have translator in hand on your phone.
Have all papers you need (e.g. proof that you're living somewhere, insurance, ...; ideally in physical printed form).

If you dont book ahead - count with hours of waiting.
If you arrive late (e.g. 5pm) - count that you might not be able to get assigned number, since the system will block other walk-in numbers if the place is full.
