Horrible experience, zero customer service skills, or even basic communication skills.

I went today for my second attempt to get my Czech driving licence (I passed my test last week, in Prague).

I went there with my Czech wife as, I’ve been here long enough to know it’s useless to go to any Uřad without a Czech native with you (looking at you, Benešov Ministry of Interior).

We do all of our research and try our best to look through all the official pages to work out what documentation is needed, we hate wasting our time as well as the workers time. The first time we were sent to window 32 and were treated to a woman who instantly decided none of our documentation was good enough, advised we checked online before we come next time so we know what documentation we need, and also failed to clearly explain what we would actually need. We were turned away because our current rental contract is on auto-renewal so the date of the contract wasn’t within six months.
Oh well, simple mistake, I can work with that… How naive of me…

Skip ahead a week. I’ve printed out a work contract and the last six months of payslips and I still have rental contracts and residence permit with me too. First we went to window 15, who quickly noticed we had a note from our previous visit so vanished for a few minutes, came back and said to return to the helpful woman on window 32. We dutifully went back to our old friend, who clearly hadn’t been informed of our visit. She instantly started with an air of hostility before even looking at all my freshly prepared documents. The documents STILL weren’t enough as apparently I can work in a cafe in the centre of Prague full time but I MIGHT live in Aš (also a Czech town so spending the last six months in the COUNTRY, seems impossible for me to prove). After my wife and I trying to explain the ridiculousness of this and showing here more of the evidence I had she suggested trying to speak to another person and maybe they’d approve this evidence. Shouldn’t a government system be objective and standardised, not down to the will of whatever guardian stands at the gate that day

We went to the information window to try and gain more clarity about what we can do next time to get more progress. This ended up in a 10 minute, very one sided argument, most of which was the woman asking “are you listening to me?” when in fact, she was the one not listening to us. She stood up and was looking down at us, raised her voice and was being incredibly patronising. Every document she suggested, we dutifully responded with “yes, we have that today but somehow that wasn’t enough” she said that they have some new hires who are still learning the system, I very much doubt that was the case for our friend at #32, her cabin looked like it had relics from the before times in it.

It honestly feels like the people working here see a foreign passport and instantly start to look for reasons to say no, no matter how prepared you are. All of the evidence required is so arbitrary and flimsy that they will always find a way to say it’s not enough. If I have sinned enough in this life to have to return to this hell, I’ll be sure to return with: my shoe size, scout badges, my latest bowel movement and my 100m swimming certificate. Maybe that will help evidence enough.

We decided to give up in Prague, we’ll go to the small town Uřad where the in-laws live and hopefully have more luck.

To anyone that has read this far, I am sorry, good luck out there.

No words for this behaviour today. Telling someone that the process is difficult because they are from the Schengen area, EU and that the process takes time exchanging a simple driver's licence, and convincing the person that it's better to go to the original member state . It's unbelievable!! Unacceptable!

Wasted 1 hour explaining with all necessary documents(working contract, insurance, lease contracts etc) that I'm here for years, and still I wasn't enough... Thank you guys:)

Had appointment today at 12:45 and the system was down. Waited for 30 minutes until I finally went inside and asked.
You think they would post a sign on the door or something simple.
Also I wonder if they know that not everyone speaks Czech language here. They refuse to speak English and the screen to select a ticket is only in Czech.
Horrible experience avoid at all costs.
Over 50 people in line at 7:30 on a Thursday morning. Even more people at 8:05.

Came today with several documents to exchange my Ukrainian drivers license (took work contract, official fresh proof of my residence in Prague, tax paper, insurance and the DL itself). The documents weren’t good enough. A cheeky woman working at the last desk #21 I think - demanded several other papers and behaved extremely rudely, focusing on my weak Czech. I didn’t understand everything she was saying as she spoke pretty quick not making it easy for me. Then she asked me - What am I even doing here if I don’t speak Czech. I called a person who is fluent in Czech so he could help - she waved at me and said - no need for calls, I don’t have time. I called nonetheless and yet we managed to get at least some answers as for refusal to proceed with DL exchange. It appeared the DL is of the old format, yet as official info states - pink DL issued in 2011-2015 are totally legit and a subject to be exchanged to European DL. Needless to say - it was pointless to try speaking to the woman in English, as she showed her racist behavior praising Czech language as the one and only on Earth. Of course I don’t recommend to come here at all (especially if you aren’t fluent in Czech - you will be returned immediately) - unprofessional, rude, egocentric, arrogant stuff working here.. (except info desk)

As a citizen of an EU country I still had to live in the Czech Republic at least during 5 months to be able to apply for the driver's license. I also had to bring a document proving the reason of my stay (like a job contract, family ties, payments for social insurance etc.) Otherwise friendly and helpful staff. Waiting time - 1 minute if registered via internet, and approx. 20 minutes if waiting in the live queue.

I thought nightmare happens in night only, and then I visit this place.

Long story in short,
I have been visited this place for five times for just to get my own driving license 🪪.
On third and forth time my Czech friend give up on this place and fifth time someone just get it.
As I bring whole of my life time saved document to them as they need each and every details like where you took your last breath even.

So yah as foreigner living in Prague, this place is nightmare for me.

Horrible experience. Had to go there to get my driver’s license. I speak pretty descent Czech but guess not to the staff’s liking. First, the older woman who I had a ‘pleasure’ to meet threw my passport back at me, saying that she doesn’t know what country it is. Then she told me that I will need to speak better Czech to fill in the form, which I told her that I can do it. But as she kept pushing back, I caved in and asked if she could call someone who spoke English. She beautifully spread her arms, pointed her finger behind me and told me that if I wanted someone English speaking, I could go behind there in the ‘záchod.’
Rude service, as in almost every other government departments, even when trying to speak Czech.

By the law, civil servants must speak only in Czech, because it's the Czech government office. Instead of complaining about, you better learn the language of the country you live in or bring a translator with you..
